New Euro logo branded ‘frivolous waste’ of taxpayers’ money

West Midlands’ MEP Mike Nattrass says the European Union should be rebranded “Expensive and Undemocratic (EU)” following news that more than £100,000 has been blown on designing a new logo for the European Commission.

New European Commission logo The UKIP MEP says the new European Commission logo is a ‘frivolous waste of taxpayers’ money’ when Britain is in recession and when other EU member states, such as Greece, are in financial crisis.

Nine Eurozone countries have had their credit ratings downgraded but despite this the European Commission is to undergo an expensive PR makeover which will see it acquire a new logo in an effort to give the organisation a new ‘visual identity’.

The new logo, which includes the EU flag and depicts the Commission’s headquarters building in Brussels, is set to be introduced next month.

As a result, hundreds of divisional and agency logos will be replaced by the new Commission logo.

Commenting on the move, Mike Nattrass said this week: “This new logo is just a frivolous waste of taxpayers’ money. Britain is in recession and nine Eurozone countries have had their credit ratings downgraded but what is the European Union doing? The answer is the EU is using taxpayers’ money on an expensive ego-massaging PR exercise.

“The European Union itself should be rebranded Expensive and Undemocratic (EU). It is clear Brussels’ bureaucrats have their heads in the clouds, or should I say in the EU stars.

“In this age of economic austerity we are being told to support EU extravagance. The EU has the audacity to talk about ‘identity’ when it is on a crusade to destroy the sovereignty of nation states,” he added.
