Greek tragedy shows Euro is doomed to fail

West Midlands MEP Mike Nattrass says Britain should not bankroll bankrupt Greece but instead bail out of the EU altogether.

The UKIP MEP has called for an explanation over wasted UK resources poured into the Eurozone project bailing out bankrupt Greece. The UKIP MEP says it should be of no concern to the UK people if Greece is facing mounting calls to abandon the doomed Euro currency.

Mr Nattrass fears cash-strapped British taxpayers will divert taxes to Greece for no good reason, as the answer is simple, Greece should leave the toxic Euro.

He said: “I have always said that one economic size does not fit all and here we have Greece trying to keep up with Germany within the same currency.

"EU ministers refuse to accept that the Euro has been an unmitigated disaster for less able economies. Greece is bust and it is clear it needs to leave the Euro or be continually bailed out by German and UK taxpayers.

"Does this not prove how little politicians understand about the EU and the financial consequences of the Euro and also how little the UK public are informed? A new manager at Aston Villa is deemed more important by the press.

“Our Government consistently makes empty promises over Europe, including the Conservatives’ failure to deliver on their cast-iron election pledge to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. The people are never allowed to decide, manifesto words are cheap and yet our voters are expected to pick up the tab for woolly political decisions. What happened to democracy?

“This same Government has said that the UK will not participate in a fresh EU bailout, but the UK has already contributed to the Greek rescue efforts through the International Monetary Fund.

“To date we have already committed £12.5 billion to bailout Ireland, Portugal and Greece despite having to make savage cuts to public services at home. What about our pensioners?

“Why should British taxpayers bailout Greece – a nation with an inability to collect tax? Indeed, under the EU’s own rules, these bailouts are not even legal.

“It is time to say no to more bailouts and put the British people first, allow British taxes to be spent on British people for a change, pull the UK out of the EU and laugh all the way to the bank with our money to spend here.”
